In the 13th century, the Zografou Monastery had Bulgarian monks, so it is also known as Bulgarian. In the early 18th century and for a long time, apart from the Bulgarians, Serbs also lived in it, as well as many Greek monks. But from 1845 until today, the Bulgarian element prevailed, and only Bulgarian monks remained.
Among the Byzantine monuments of Kassandra that have survived and are accessible, are the Cemetery Church of Agios Athanasios in Fourka Halkidiki (1600) and the Early Christian Basilica at the site of Skala Fourkas, which are located in the broader area.
